Pdf Summary
This study analyzed real-world data on immune-checkpoint inhibitors-related colitis in patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The researchers collected data on patients treated with immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) as a single agent or in combination with chemotherapy. They performed a blinded revision of the colonic biopsies to analyze the histological features.

The results showed that there was a high prevalence of microscopic colitis among patients undergoing endoscopy. Collagenous colitis was associated with longer symptom durations, even with steroids administration. The microscopic features observed in the colonic biopsies included crypt atrophy/loss, mucin depletion, apoptotic bodies, lamina propria expansion, collagenous band, intraepithelial lymphocytes, and lymphomonocytic infiltrate.

The study also highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary management in improving toxicity outcomes. Patients with collagenous colitis had a longer duration of symptoms compared to those with non-collagenous colitis. The median duration of symptoms in patients with collagenous colitis was 200 days compared to 51 days in those with non-collagenous colitis.

The study also compared the clinical features of patients receiving ICIs alone versus ICIs plus chemotherapy. It found that the time to symptom onset and resolution was similar in both groups.

In conclusion, this real-world analysis provides valuable insights into the clinical management and histological features of immune-checkpoint inhibitors-related colitis in patients with advanced NSCLC. The findings underscore the importance of multidisciplinary management in improving outcomes and highlight the need for further research in this area.
