Pdf Summary
This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of disability and lung cancer screening use among adults at increased risk for lung cancer. The researchers used data from the 2020 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and focused on a population-based sample from five US states. The study included 1,522 adults aged 50-79 who were eligible for lung cancer screening based on US Preventive Service Task Force criteria. The outcome of interest was lung cancer screening use in the past 12 months.

The results showed that 20.3% of participants received lung cancer screening in the past 12 months. Adults with three disabilities had higher odds of receiving lung cancer screening compared to those without a disability. The researchers concluded that there seems to be an association between disability status and lung cancer screening use. However, they emphasized the need for further research to understand the benefits of lung cancer screening among adults with disabilities.

Additional information from the study includes the demographic characteristics of the sample, such as the gender distribution (43% women and 57% men), the percentage of participants without a healthcare provider (13%), and those without health insurance coverage (9.5%). The study also found that 54% of participants were current smokers, 46% were former smokers, and the mean pack-years of smoking was 43.6.

Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the prevalence of disability and lung cancer screening use among adults at increased risk for lung cancer. The findings suggest that individuals with disabilities may be more likely to receive lung cancer screening, but more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between disability status and screening utilization.
