Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to investigate the clinical features and surgical outcomes of young patients with ground glass opacity featured lung adenocarcinoma (GGO-LUAD). The study included patients aged 15 to 40 who were diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma and underwent video assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) between January 2017 and December 2018. The patients were divided into two groups based on the radiological appearance of their lesions: a GGO group and a solid nodule (SN) group.

The results showed that both the GGO group and the SN group had a higher proportion of females and non-smokers. Pathological findings revealed that the GGO group had a predominance of pre-invasive lesions, while the SN group had mostly invasive adenocarcinoma. The SN group showed significantly worse histological characteristics and prognosis compared to the GGO group.

After a median follow-up time of 41.2 months, the GGO group had significantly higher 3-year recurrence-free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS) rates compared to the SN group. The 3-year RFS and OS rates of the GGO group were 100%, while those of the SN group were 93.4% and 96.9%, respectively.

The study concluded that young patients with GGO-LUAD are mainly non-smokers and female. Most of these patients were early-stage and had an excellent prognosis after surgery. This information is important for the diagnosis and treatment of young patients with GGO-LUAD, especially considering the increasing number of cases due to the popularity of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) and the COVID-19 pandemic. Further research is needed to better understand the characteristics and outcomes of GGO-LUAD in young patients and to optimize treatment strategies for these individuals.
