Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to examine the acceptability and feasibility of lung cancer screening in Australia, particularly in relation to the government's plan to potentially implement a national screening program. The study involved 84 health professionals from various disciplines who participated in focus groups conducted over Zoom.

The findings of the study revealed that a lung cancer screening program was considered to be both feasible and acceptable. However, several barriers and challenges to implementation were identified. These included difficulties in engaging priority/target groups, ensuring equity and access to screening, and addressing the need for workforce resources and physical infrastructure. It was also recognized that a quality assurance program would be necessary for the success of the screening program.

On the other hand, several facilitators to implementation were identified. These included raising awareness and conducting education campaigns about lung cancer screening, streamlining referral processes for initial entry and follow-up, and using mobile screening vans to reach individuals in regional, rural, and remote areas.

The study's findings are expected to be highly relevant to the early scoping of a potential national lung cancer screening program recently announced by the Australian government. The study highlights the complex challenges that need to be addressed in order to make such a program acceptable and feasible in the Australian context.

In conclusion, the study identifies key barriers and facilitators to the implementation of a lung cancer screening program in Australia. By addressing these challenges and utilizing the identified facilitators, it is hoped that lung cancer screening can be successfully implemented in the country, leading to improved outcomes for patients.
