Pdf Summary
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with a high mortality rate and a large percentage of cases being diagnosed at advanced stages. Early detection of lung cancer through screening programs is crucial for improving survival rates. However, there are significant gaps in early detection in low- and middle-income countries due to socioeconomic and infrastructure limitations.

This study aims to characterize the patient journey of lung nodules in different hospitals and clinics across Latin America. The primary objective is to describe the process from nodule identification to final diagnosis, staging, and treatment decision. Secondary objectives include determining the medical specialties involved in the journey, identifying referral patterns, estimating the proportion of benign and malignant nodules, understanding healthcare resource utilization, and analyzing the time from nodule identification to diagnosis and treatment decision.

The study is a non-interventional, real-world observational study with a follow-up period of 2 years. Patients with lung nodules are being recruited from 21 hospitals/clinics in 9 Latin American countries. Data will be presented in the form of continuous and categorical variables, and statistical analysis will be conducted using the Kaplan-Meier method.

Enrollment began in December 2021, and as of now, 66 subjects have been enrolled. The study is ongoing, and the last patient visit is planned for December 2024. The inclusion criteria specify that adult subjects aged 35 years and above with solid or subsolid lung nodules identified through imaging exams in routine clinical practice are eligible to participate.

The study aims to provide insights into the management of lung nodules, with a focus on comparing different institutions and countries and examining differences between retrospective and prospective cohorts. The ultimate goal is to improve the early detection and treatment of lung cancer in Latin America.
