Pdf Summary
The Female Asian Nonsmoker Screening Study (FANSS) is an ongoing study conducted in the United States to investigate the feasibility of a lung cancer screening program in Asian female nonsmokers. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Asian Americans, and many are diagnosed at advanced stages. The FANSS study aims to explore the use of low-dose CT (LDCT) Chest scans in this population.

The study's target is to enroll 1000 participants who are Asian, female, and nonsmokers. Interested individuals will contact a central number connected to a patient navigator, who will assess their eligibility. Eligible participants will undergo LDCT screening exams. Negative results will proceed to have repeat LDCT for two additional years, while positive results will receive further diagnostic workup and possible treatment.

In addition to LDCT scans, the study will collect blood samples from participants for a plasma-based assay by Delfi Diagnostics. A medical history questionnaire will also be given to gather information on ethnicity, environmental exposures, and World Trade Center dust exposure.

The primary objective of the FANSS study is to create a database and biorepository of Asian female nonsmokers who undergo LDCT for lung cancer screening. The secondary objectives include estimating the rate of lung cancer cases detected, summarizing the distribution of lung cancer stages among detected cases, and estimating the percentage of incidental findings of coronary artery disease and thyroid nodules.

Recruitment for the study is ongoing in New York City, with plans to expand to Southern California and other major cities in the United States. The study status is ongoing.

Overall, the FANSS study aims to address the high prevalence of lung cancer in Asian American women by exploring the feasibility of a lung cancer screening program using LDCT scans.
