However, there were significant differences in COPD prevalence and baseline lung function between the proton-SBRT and photon-SBRT groups.<br /><br />The study found that there was no significant difference in local control, progression-free survival, overall survival, or cause-specific survival between the proton-SBRT and photon-SBRT groups. Additionally, there was no significant difference in pulmonary toxicity between the two treatment groups.<br /><br />Overall, this study suggests that proton-SBRT and photon-SBRT have similar outcomes in patients with early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. The study highlights the importance of certain variables such as ECOG PS, baseline lung function, and operability in predicting outcomes. However, further research is needed to confirm these findings and determine the optimal treatment approach for these patients.
