Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to analyze the survival rates of patients with stage T1 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who underwent different types of surgical resections. The study specifically focused on whether a completion lobectomy should be performed following sublobar resection for invasive T1 NSCLC.

The study included 233 patients who were operated on between January 2003 and August 2021. Out of these patients, 30 (12.9%) had completion lobectomy, 23 (9.9%) had wedge resection, 10 (4.3%) had segmentectomy, and 70 (30.0%) had lobectomy. The groups were compared in terms of demographic characteristics, tumor characteristics, surgical outcomes, and survival rates.

The study found that the mean survival of all analyzed patients was 147 months. Complications occurred in 13.3% of patients who underwent completion lobectomy. There was no significant difference in tumor diameter and lymph node metastasis between the groups. The survival rates of patients who had completion lobectomy were not significantly different from those who had wedge resection or segmentectomy. However, patients who underwent lobectomy had a higher survival rate compared to those who had wedge resection or segmentectomy.

Based on these findings, the study concludes that completion lobectomy is safe and should be performed in patients with T1 NSCLC who undergo sublobar resections. The study suggests that the mean survival rate is worse in patients who undergo wedge resection or segmentectomy compared to those who undergo lobectomy. Therefore, completion lobectomy can improve survival outcomes in these patients.
