Pdf Summary
The US FDA Oncology Center of Excellence launched Project Patient Voice (PPV) in 2020 to provide a resource for patients and healthcare providers (HCPs) to discuss treatment side effects. The pilot phase of PPV includes data from a phase III study comparing TAGRISSO versus platinum-based chemotherapy in patients with treatment-refractory EGFR-positive non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Initial feedback on the pilot public-facing website for cancer clinical trial patient-reported symptom data showed that patients and HCPs found the website easy to navigate and considered it to be an important formal source of information, as opposed to relying on social media. Some suggestions for improvement included the addition of a short video tutorial on how to use the website and the ability to sort symptoms. Patients and HCPs also felt that the listing of 28 symptoms was overwhelming and suggested presenting only the most common symptoms upfront, with the option to view additional symptoms.

Regarding integration into workflow, opinions varied across different clinics, but many agreed that it was feasible. Patient demographics showed that the majority were female, had stage IV NSCLC, and tested positive for the EGFR oncogene. HCP demographics showed a predominance of females and included oncologists, nurses, and social workers.

Overall, while there were areas for improvement, both patients and HCPs supported the concept and usefulness of the current version of PPV. HCPs expressed interest in using PPV to assist patients with treatment decisions and navigate symptomatic side effects. They also suggested providing printed resources, such as handouts with pie charts, for patients who may not have internet access.

In conclusion, this small qualitative study demonstrated support for PPV among patients and HCPs. Improvements can be made to the website, but the current version is considered valuable for its purpose.
