Pdf Summary
The Australia and New Zealand Lung Cancer Clinical Quality Registry (ANZLCR) is being developed to monitor and improve lung cancer care in both countries. Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer mortality in Australia and New Zealand, and there is evidence of variation in care and outcomes across different treatment centers. The registry will collect and analyze data on patient demographics, disease characteristics, management processes, and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and evaluate unwarranted clinical variation.

The registry will include all adults over 18 years of age with a new diagnosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), small cell lung cancer (SCLC), thymoma, or mesothelioma. Data will be collected using opt-out consent and will be collected electronically through local data collectors and data linkage. The data will be stored securely in a web-based platform overseen by the registry management.

The ANZLCR has received national ethics approval and will routinely report performance data to participating sites and stakeholders, including federal and state health departments. Local, regional, and national benchmarks will be established to guide quality improvement efforts, and an online dashboard will provide indicator reporting for targeted improvement.

The registry aims to address evidence-practice gaps in lung cancer management and provide real-world data to support research and improvement in lung cancer healthcare. High prevalence, morbidity, and poor survival rates make lung cancer a significant burden in the region, and the registry aims to improve outcomes and reduce unwarranted variation in care. Overall, the development of the ANZLCR will provide a valuable tool for monitoring, evaluating, and improving lung cancer care in Australia and New Zealand.
