Pdf Summary
This study evaluated the management of Stage III non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) at the Mohamed IV Center for Cancer Treatment in Morocco. The study included 123 patients over a period of two years. The majority of patients underwent a complete check-up, including brain scans, MRI, and CT scans. The patients were classified according to the 8th TNM classification, with 62.6% classified as stage IIIB, 27.6% as stage IIIA, and 9.8% as stage IIIC. The treatment decisions were made in multidisciplinary meetings, and surgical management was decided for only 26% of the cases. The majority of patients received neoadjuvant chemotherapy or chemoradiotherapy. Only 11.3% of patients received surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. Adjuvant radiotherapy was performed in one patient who had an R1 resection. Progression was noted in 30.9% of cases, while complete response was achieved in only 3.2% of cases. Alteration in performance status before or during chemotherapy was noted in 17% of patients. The study highlights the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in determining the therapeutic strategy for NSCLC and the need for personalized treatment considering the individual patient's co-morbidities and performance status.
