Pdf Summary
A study conducted at Tata Medical Center in Kolkata, India examined the outcomes of lung cancer patients who also had COVID-19. The study aimed to understand the mortality rate, as well as post-COVID morbidity and mortality in these patients.

The results showed that lung cancer patients with COVID-19 had a high rate of complications and mortality. The mortality rate in these patients ranged from 18% to 60%, depending on various studies. Patients with progressive lung cancer who were diagnosed with COVID-19 had a higher risk of death. Additionally, in the 30-day period following COVID-19 recovery, there were high rates of mortality, cancer progression, and performance status decline.

Cancer progression was detected in 11.1% of patients, and 29.6% experienced a decline in their performance status, making them ineligible for further anticancer therapy. The study also found that patients who had progressive disease prior to their COVID-19 diagnosis had a higher mortality rate.

The study included a total of 54 lung cancer patients with COVID-19, with an average age of 61.8 years. The in-hospital mortality rate during the same admission was 24.1%, and the total mortality rate, including the 30-day post-discharge period, was 40.7%.

In conclusion, the study highlights the high mortality and morbidity rates in lung cancer patients with COVID-19, particularly in those with progressive lung cancer. The findings emphasize the importance of considering the impact of COVID-19 on cancer patients and the need for further research to improve outcomes in this population.
