Pdf Summary
Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is a type of cancer with a poor prognosis and limited effective treatments. However, it has been found that a multimodal treatment approach, which includes surgery and other treatments, can improve survival rates. This study aimed to present the survival results of patients who received multimodal treatment for MPM and underwent pleurectomy/decortication (P/D) surgery.

The study included 23 patients who underwent P/D surgery and received multimodal treatment for MPM. The patients were divided into two groups based on the sequence of treatments. Group 1 received neoadjuvant treatment, surgery, and adjuvant treatment, while Group 2 received surgery and adjuvant treatment. The relationships between clinicopathological factors, treatment patterns, and overall survival rates were analyzed.

The results showed that the mean age of the patients was 58.7 years, and the majority of them were in stage 1 of the disease. The 2-year and 5-year survival rates for all patients were 72% and 43%, respectively. The median survival time at 5 years was 36 months. There was no statistically significant difference in the 2-year survival rate between Group 1 and Group 2.

In conclusion, the study suggests that multimodal treatment, including P/D surgery, can improve survival outcomes for patients with MPM. P/D surgery is a viable option for achieving complete resection of the tumor and has satisfactory survival results. The study also suggests that integrating targeted treatments or immunotherapy methods into multimodal treatment approaches could further improve survival rates. Further research is needed to explore the effectiveness of these additional treatments.

2.
