EP07.01-011. Integrating PD-L1 Expression to the CALGB Prognostic Scoring System in Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma

A study was conducted to assess the prognostic value of programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) expression in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) by integrating it into the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) prognostic scoring system. The study included 68 patients with locally advanced and metastatic MPM. PD-L1 expression was determined using tumor tissue specimens, and cut-off points of PD-L1 positivity and high PD-L1 expression were defined. The study found that patients with high PD-L1 expression had worse survival outcomes compared to those with low PD-L1 expression. The analysis also showed that a low PD-L1 expression was associated with better progression-free survival and overall survival. CALGB scores were also assessed, and it was observed that patients with a CALGB score of 5 to 6 had the highest number of cases with high PD-L1 expression. Multivariate analysis confirmed that PD-L1 expression was an independent factor for both progression-free survival and overall survival in patients with MPM and a CALGB score of 5 to 6. The study concluded that PD-L1 expression has prognostic implications in patients with advanced MPM, and it is a significant prognostic factor regardless of the CALGB scoring system. This suggests that integrating PD-L1 expression into the CALGB prognostic scoring system could provide additional valuable information for predicting prognosis in MPM patients.
