Pdf Summary
This study aimed to evaluate the real-world usage rates and compliance with Tumor Treating Fields (TTFields) in patients with unresectable malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM). TTFields is a treatment approach that was made available for use in MPM patients under an FDA-approved Humanitarian Device Exemption (HDE) protocol in 2019.

The study enrolled patients from 14 institutions between September 2019 and March 2022. All patients received continuous TTFields therapy. The usage patterns and rates were analyzed based on the device output data.

The results showed that the median TTFields usage after 3 months decreased to 9.1 hours per day, representing 38% of the daily duration. The overall usage during all treatment courses was 10.3 hours per day, which accounted for 43% of the daily duration.

Only a small percentage of patients had high compliance rates, with 9.1% having a compliance rate over 75% and 12.1% having a usage rate over 68%. On the other hand, 18.2% of patients had a usage under the low usage rate.

There were significant differences in usage across months, with the highest percentage of usage observed in the first treatment month and the lowest percentage in the last treatment month. Self-discontinuation was observed in 69.7% of patients, most commonly in the first three months.

The study concludes that TTFields in combination with chemotherapy is a feasible treatment strategy for selected MPM patients. However, further research is needed to determine the optimal compliance rates for disease control.

Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the real-world usage patterns and compliance with TTFields in MPM patients, which can help inform clinical practice and treatment decisions.
