Pdf Summary
This study aimed to investigate the association between personal factors and the effectiveness of immunotherapy in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The response rates to immunotherapy in NSCLC are generally low and there are disparities in survival outcomes. Previous studies have not accounted for confounders and may have limited generalizability.

The study used data from the SEER-Medicare linked dataset, focusing on patients diagnosed with stage IV NSCLC in 2015. The primary predictor was the receipt of chemoimmunotherapy, and the outcome of interest was overall survival (OS). The analyses included multivariable Cox-proportional hazards regression and propensity-score matching.

The results showed that survival improved in the chemoimmunotherapy group compared to chemotherapy alone. Males had significantly better OS after chemoimmunotherapy compared to females. The study found limited evidence that age, histology, race, and comorbidities contribute to differences in effectiveness.

The study concluded that the benefits from chemoimmunotherapy may be higher in males, but further research is needed to fully understand the impact of age, histology, race, and comorbidities. The findings were adjusted for various factors including age, sex, race, marital status, Charlson comorbidity, and histology.

The study references other relevant research on the impact of smoking status on progression-free survival, predictors of survival benefit from immune checkpoint inhibitors, and the association between personal characteristics and the effectiveness of immunotherapy in late-stage NSCLC.

In summary, this study suggests that chemoimmunotherapy may improve overall survival in metastatic NSCLC and that there may be differences in effectiveness based on gender. However, more research is needed to fully understand the influence of other personal factors.
