This study compared the efficacy and toxicity of a weekly regimen of carboplatin and paclitaxel versus the conventional 3-weekly regimen in the treatment of metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The medical records of 100 patients treated between 2015 and 2020 were analyzed for demographic and clinical characteristics, as well as efficacy and toxicity outcomes.<br /><br />The results showed that the two regimens had similar efficacy in terms of progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS). The median PFS was 3.2 months in the weekly regimen compared to 1.86 months in the 3-weekly regimen, and the median OS was 26.3 months compared to 21.5 months. The toxicity profile was also similar between the two groups.<br /><br />The study highlights the weekly regimen as a valid treatment option, especially for elderly patients and those with significant comorbidities. The weekly regimen demonstrated comparable efficacy and toxicity to the conventional 3-weekly regimen, making it a suitable alternative for certain patient populations.<br /><br />It is important to note that this was a retrospective study based on real-world data, and there may be limitations in terms of selection bias and the influence of other treatment factors. Prospective trials comparing the two regimens are still lacking. Nevertheless, the study provides valuable insight into the use of carboplatin and paclitaxel in the treatment of metastatic NSCLC.
