Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to investigate the treatment preferences of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with EGFR mutations and treating physicians in Japan. The study looked at various attributes of NSCLC treatments, including mode and frequency of administration, efficacy, side effects, and cost. The researchers used a Discrete Choice Experiment (DCE) to assess the importance of these attributes to patients and physicians.

The results showed that the most important attributes in treatment choice were progression-free survival (PFS), response rate (ORR), and serious adverse events (SAEs). Patients and physicians were aligned on the order of attribute importance, with PFS being valued more strongly by physicians. Patients placed more importance than physicians on all remaining attributes.

The study also found that there was a slight preference for oral treatment compared to intravenous (IV) treatment when all attributes were equal. However, patients and physicians were willing to trade the convenience of oral treatment for improvements in efficacy and/or safety.

The study used a pooled sample of data from patients and physicians to estimate the model parameters and check for differences between the two groups. The only parameter that was significantly different between patients and physicians was the sensitivity to PFS, which was valued more strongly by physicians for both IV and oral treatments.

Overall, the findings of this study provide insights into the treatment preferences of NSCLC patients with EGFR mutations and treating physicians in Japan. The results can be used to inform the development of treatment options and improve patient-centered care.
