Pdf Summary
A study conducted in Morocco aimed to describe the characteristics of patients with Small Cell Lung Carcinoma (SCLC) and identify differences between SCLC and non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). The study included 606 patients with lung cancer, out of which 45 had SCLC. The findings showed a significant increase in the proportion of SCLC cases in Morocco, from 6.62% in 2014 to 8.55% in 2017. The male-to-female ratio was 21.5, and the average age at diagnosis was 58.58 years. Most cases (80%) were smokers, and almost all cases (90.91%) were diagnosed at an advanced stage. Immunohistochemistry results showed positivity for certain markers. Compared to NSCLC, SCLC was found to be highly metastatic and more commonly diagnosed at stage IV of the disease. However, there were no significant differences between the two histological types in terms of sex, age at diagnosis, or smoking status. The study highlights the need for further research on metastatic mechanisms in SCLC in order to control the spread of metastases and develop new therapeutic biomarkers.
