Pdf Summary
A multicenter study was conducted to investigate the expression and prognostic value of MYC family members (C-Myc, L-Myc, and N-Myc) in surgically resected small cell lung cancer (SCLC) specimens. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor samples from limited stage SCLC patients who underwent surgery were collected. Immunohistochemistry was performed to evaluate the expression levels of MYC family members. Clinical data of the patients were retrospectively collected, and overall survival (OS) was analyzed.

A total of 85 patients were included in the study, with a median age of 64 years. Male patients accounted for 52.9% of the cohort, and 88.2% received anatomic lung resection. The expression rates of L-Myc, C-Myc, and N-Myc were 61.9%, 44.7%, and 7.1%, respectively. The expression of L-Myc and N-Myc did not show a significant association with OS. However, patients with positive C-Myc expression had significantly impaired OS compared to those with C-Myc negative tumors, with median OS of 29 months versus 46 months, respectively (p=0.0085).

The study provides further evidence on the clinical presence of MYC family members in surgically resected SCLC. The expression of C-Myc, in particular, was found to be associated with worse prognosis. These findings suggest that MYC family members may serve as potential therapeutic targets in SCLC. Additional studies are needed to further investigate the role of MYC family members in SCLC.

The results of this study contribute to the understanding of the molecular characteristics of SCLC and provide insights into potential targeted treatment strategies for this aggressive form of lung cancer. Further research in this field is warranted to validate these findings and explore the therapeutic implications of targeting MYC family members in SCLC patients.
