Pdf Summary
This study aimed to compare the expression of PD-L1, a biomarker of immune therapy response, in patients with pleural mesothelioma (PM) from two different ethnic origins with occupational or geographical asbestos exposure. The researchers collected tumor samples from Turkish (n=56) and Japanese (n=37) patients with PM and evaluated the PD-L1 expression and clinicopathological parameters. They found that the mean age, gender, smoking history, vital status, asbestos exposure (presence vs. absence and occupational vs. geographical), and PD-L1 expression in tumor cells were statistically different between Turkish and Japanese PMs. The PMs related to geographic asbestos exposure showed higher PD-L1 expression, suggesting that they may have different clinical features and potentially better immunotherapy responses compared to those related to occupational exposure. Overall, this study provides new insights into the relationship between asbestos exposure, PD-L1 expression, and clinicopathological features in PM patients from different ethnic origins.
