Pdf Summary
A study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of using extracellular vesicle long RNA (exlRNA) sequencing as a diagnostic tool for lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) with tumor sizes smaller than 2 cm. A total of 115 LUAD patients and 53 controls were enrolled in the study. Next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based exlRNA sequencing was performed on serum samples obtained before lung surgery.

The results showed that there were differentially expressed genes between LUAD patients and benign controls. A total of 145 upregulated genes and 363 downregulated genes were identified.

A model was built using a 23-gene signature, which showed a high sensitivity of 86.49%, specificity of 95.00%, and accuracy of 92.31% in distinguishing LUAD samples from benign samples in the training set. When applied to the validation set, the model had a sensitivity of 93.75%, specificity of 85.71%, and accuracy of 88.24% in detecting LUAD.

Based on these findings, the study concluded that the serum extracellular vesicle 23-gene RNA-seq panel has great diagnostic value for LUAD patients with tumor sizes smaller than 2 cm. The researchers suggest that this method could be used as a supplement to lung cancer screening.

In summary, this study highlights the potential of using exlRNA sequencing as a diagnostic biomarker for early detection of lung adenocarcinoma in patients with small tumors. It offers a non-invasive and reliable approach to aid in the screening and diagnosis of this type of cancer.
