Pdf Summary
In this study conducted at a secondary hospital, the presence of driver mutations in patients with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) was evaluated. The study analyzed data from 2014 to 2021 and included molecular studies of metastatic adenocarcinomas and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) in non-smokers or light smokers. Initially, only EGFR mutations and ALK and ROS1 rearrangements were studied, but since 2016, molecular tests targeting various mutations and rearrangements were performed using next-generation sequencing (NGS).

The most common driver mutations identified were EGFR, K-RAS, and ALK rearrangements. EGFR mutations were more prevalent than K-RAS, possibly due to the fact that K-RAS mutation testing was not performed before 2016. The study found that ALK rearrangements were more common in men and that central nervous system (CNS) metastasis was not more prevalent in patients with ROS1 rearrangements.

The majority of patients had adenocarcinoma histology, but SCC was more frequent in patients with MET exon 14 skipping mutation (METex14). Among K-RAS patients, a higher percentage had poorly differentiated tumors.

Overall, the study provides insights into the prevalence of different driver mutations in metastatic NSCLC and their association with demographic and clinical characteristics. However, no information is provided about the outcomes or survival rates associated with these driver mutations.
