Pdf Summary
A recent study conducted by researchers from Tempus Labs, Inc., the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center at Northwestern University, and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill aimed to evaluate racial and socioeconomic disparities in patients with advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) treated with immunotherapy. The study focused on the impact of social and structural determinants of health, such as racism and access to healthcare, on racial health disparities. This is the first real-world cohort analysis to examine the relationship between race, socioeconomic advantage (measured by the area deprivation index), and overall survival in NSCLC patients treated with immunotherapy.

The study analyzed data from 189 NSCLC patients who underwent broad molecular testing and were treated with FDA-approved immunotherapy as first-line treatment. The results showed that there were no significant differences in overall survival based on race or area deprivation. However, the analysis did reveal a higher median area deprivation index in Black patients compared to non-Black patients.

The study suggests that future research should focus on improving access to biomarker testing and guideline-concordant therapy to address racial and socioeconomic health disparities. It is important to note that this study utilized the Tempus xT tumor normal matched assay, which is a targeted panel that detects genetic variants in NSCLC patients.

The findings of this study contribute to the understanding of racial and socioeconomic disparities in NSCLC patients treated with immunotherapy. By identifying the factors that contribute to these disparities, researchers can work towards implementing strategies to mitigate these inequalities and improve patient outcomes.
