Pdf Summary
This study aimed to investigate the role of occupation in the risk of small cell lung cancer and adenocarcinoma in Spanish women. Previous studies have not identified the impact of specific job types or exposures on the risk of occupational lung cancer in females, particularly in the case of small cell lung cancer.

The study included 618 cases of lung cancer (391 adenocarcinoma and 122 small cell lung cancer) and 644 controls. Information about occupation was collected using the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08), and logistic regressions were performed, adjusting for age, tobacco consumption, and residential radon exposure.

The results showed that certain occupations were associated with a higher risk of adenocarcinoma and small cell lung cancer in women. For adenocarcinoma, the occupations with a higher risk included agriculture, farming or gardening, housewives, kitchen personnel, commerce, education, and domestic and cleaning staff. However, for small cell lung cancer, the occupations with a higher risk were housewives, kitchen personnel, and education.

These findings suggest that specific occupations may have a greater impact on the development of certain types of lung cancer in women. However, it should be noted that the occupations associated with a higher risk of adenocarcinoma and small cell lung cancer did not entirely overlap. Further research is needed to better understand the relationship between occupation and lung cancer risk in women.
