Pdf Summary
This study presented the diagnostic efficacy of combining computed tomography (CT) imaging and electrical impedance analysis (EIA) for the screening and early detection of lung cancer in lung nodules. The aim was to improve the accuracy of malignancy risk stratification for early-stage lung cancers. A total of 287 patients with CT-detected pulmonary lesions were recruited, and the nodules were classified as CT-positive or CT-negative based on radiological features. The ProLung non-invasive test, which measures bioimpedance, was then used to generate low or high malignancy risk categories for the nodules. The diagnostic sensitivities and missed diagnosis rates were compared between using CT alone, ProLung alone, and the combination of both.

The results showed that combining CT and ProLung significantly reduced the missed diagnosis rate compared to using each method alone. The diagnostic sensitivities for early-stage lung cancers were also higher when using the combination, particularly for carcinoma in situ (CIS) and Stage IA cancers. The study concluded that integrating the malignancy assessments from both CT and ProLung can effectively advance the detection accuracy for early-stage cancers in lung nodules.

This research highlights the potential of using EIA as a non-invasive and objective diagnostic tool for evaluating early cancer risks in lung lesions. By combining this technology with CT imaging, clinicians can improve their ability to stratify malignancy risks and make better medical decisions for patients. Ultimately, this approach has the potential to reduce lung cancer mortality by enabling early detection and treatment.
