Pdf Summary
This study aimed to explore people's cognition of early detection of lung cancer and its impact on participation in cancer screening and preventive health behavior. Thirteen participants who had never been diagnosed with lung cancer were interviewed using focus group interviews. The responses revealed that most participants had low sensitivity to early detection of lung cancer but perceived screening across the country as good. The reasons for participating in cancer screening included sharing information about early symptoms of cancer, family history of cancer, and experiences of acquaintances diagnosed with cancer. Barrier factors for early detection of cancer included inconvenience in using hospital services, economic factors, lack of knowledge of early cancer symptoms, and ignoring symptoms caused by anxiety. Most participants did not know the early detection signs of cancer and did not believe they needed regular check-ups. The demographic information of the participants showed that the majority were female and in their 60s, with a family history of cancer. The study suggests that efforts are needed to provide appropriate information to increase public awareness of lung cancer and its risk factors, including smoking. The findings highlight the importance of understanding people's cognition and barriers to participation in cancer screening to develop effective strategies for early detection and prevention.
