Pdf Summary
This study aimed to assess the occurrence of EGFR mutations in postoperative patients with stage II-III lung adenocarcinoma in Japan. A total of 248 patients with non-small cell lung cancer were included in the study, with 110 diagnosed as adenocarcinoma. The frequency of EGFR mutations, as well as disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS), were analyzed in EGFR positive and EGFR negative groups. The results showed that EGFR mutations occurred in 28.2% of patients, with a higher prevalence in females. The most common mutations were deletions within exon 19 and the L858R mutation in exon 21. The 5-year overall and disease-free survival rates were higher in the EGFR positive group compared to the EGFR negative group, but the occurrence of EGFR mutation did not significantly influence OS and DFS in patients after surgical resection. The frequency of EGFR mutation in postoperative lung cancer was found to be comparable to the general lung cancer population. These findings suggest that EGFR mutation status may not be a prognostic factor for patients undergoing resection for lung adenocarcinoma. It is important to note that recent studies have shown the promising effect of Osimertinib in the adjuvant setting, which may have implications for the treatment of EGFR-positive lung cancer patients after resection. Overall, this study provides insights into the prevalence and prognostic impact of EGFR mutations in postoperative lung cancer patients.
