EP06.05. Validation of the IASLC Grading System of Invasive Adenocarcinoma of the Lung in Small Volume Center - PDF(Abstract)

This study aimed to validate the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) histologic grading system for invasive lung adenocarcinoma in a small volume center. The study included 108 patients who underwent pulmonary resection for stage I to IIIA adenocarcinoma. The patients were divided into three groups based on the architectural system and the IASLC grading system. The architectural system categorized tumors into low, intermediate, and high groups based on the predominant tumor pattern, while the IASLC system added a high-grade subtype component. The study evaluated the prognostic implication of the IASLC system compared to the architectural system using recurrence-free survival (RFS) as the endpoint. <br /><br />The results showed that the area under the curve (AUC) for the IASLC system was 0.760 for RFS, while the AUC for the architectural system was 0.720 for RFS. This indicates that the IASLC grading system had a slightly better prediction of RFS compared to the architectural system. The study concluded that the IASLC grading system has similar prognostic significance and could be a promising tool for physicians in making postoperative decisions for patients with invasive lung adenocarcinoma. <br /><br />Keywords for this study include lung cancer, adenocarcinoma, and grading system.
