Pdf Summary
The aim of this study was to investigate the correlation between vitamin C and C-reactive protein (CRP) serum levels in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in the Sumatera Utara population in Indonesia. The researchers measured the serum levels of vitamin C and CRP in 53 patients with advanced NSCLC. They found that all patients had vitamin C deficiency, which was higher than previous studies. However, there was no correlation between CRP and vitamin C levels in NSCLC patients. The researchers concluded that other factors such as cancer treatment, infection, cancer staging, and smoking history may influence CRP levels in NSCLC patients.

Lung cancer is the third leading cause of cancer death in Indonesia, and previous studies have shown that CRP levels are associated with the risk of lung cancer and poor prognosis in NSCLC patients. Vitamin C deficiency is common in patients with advanced cancer and has been shown to have an inverse relationship with CRP levels. However, there is limited data on the status of vitamin C and its correlation with CRP levels in NSCLC patients.

The findings of this study indicate that NSCLC patients in the Sumatera Utara population have high CRP levels and vitamin C deficiency. However, there is no correlation between CRP and vitamin C levels in these patients. The lack of correlation could be attributed to other factors affecting CRP levels, such as cancer treatment, infection, cancer staging, and smoking history.

In conclusion, this study suggests that there is no correlation between vitamin C and CRP serum levels in NSCLC patients in the Sumatera Utara population. Further research is needed to explore the potential influence of other factors on CRP levels in NSCLC patients.
