Pdf Summary
A recent study conducted at Dharmais National Cancer Center in Jakarta, Indonesia, investigated the potential of plasma extracellular vesicle miR-10b-5p as a biomarker for progressivity, survivorship, and treatment response in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients. The study included 16 NSCLC patients, and their serum samples were collected before and after treatment. The expression of miR-10b-5p was analyzed, and the patients' survival and therapy responses were monitored.

The results showed that there was an increased expression of miR-10b-5p in the stable disease (SD) and progressive disease (PD) groups after therapy, while the partial response (PR) group showed a decrease in miR-10b-5p expression. These findings suggest that miR-10b-5p may play a role in the progression of NSCLC. Additionally, the increased expression of miR-10b-5p in the SD group potentially serves as a predictor of progression, indicating that it could be used as a molecular biomarker to assess therapy response in NSCLC patients.

However, the study also found that miR-10b-5p expression in extracellular vesicles from blood plasma cannot predict overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in NSCLC patients. Therefore, while miR-10b-5p may be useful in assessing the therapeutic response, it is not a reliable predictor of long-term outcomes in lung cancer patients.

In conclusion, this study suggests that changes in miR-10b-5p expression can be used as a molecular biomarker to assess the therapeutic response in NSCLC patients. However, further research is needed to fully understand the role of miR-10b-5p in lung cancer and its potential as a predictive biomarker for long-term survivorship.
