A study conducted at the Dharmais National Cancer Center Hospital in Indonesia investigated the role of miR-320b in non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC). The study aimed to compare the expression of miR-320b in NSCLC tissues before and after therapy and evaluate its relationship with treatment response and prognosis.<br /><br />The study involved 16 NSCLC patients who received therapy with chemotherapy or tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Blood samples were taken before and after therapy, and the expression of miR-320b in extracellular vesicles (EVs) was analyzed using various methods. The study subjects had a median age of 53.44 years, and the majority were male.<br /><br />After therapy, the levels of miR-320b increased, although not significantly. The partial response group showed a 28% decrease in miR-320b levels, the stable disease group showed a 21% decrease, and the progressive disease group showed a 29% increase. However, there was no significant relationship between miR-320b levels and treatment response. There was also no significant difference in miR-320b levels between patients undergoing chemotherapy and tyrosine kinase inhibitor therapy.<br /><br />The study suggests that the decrease in miR-320b expression in the partial response and stable disease groups, and the increase in the progressive disease group, may be a response mechanism in the tumor microenvironment to the therapeutic effects. However, further research is needed to validate these findings and develop effective therapeutic strategies for NSCLC.<br /><br />The study findings indicate that miR-320 plays a significant role in NSCLC. It is associated with tumor progression and may potentially serve as a prognostic factor. However, it is important to note that these findings are based on a specific study and further research is needed to confirm and expand upon these findings.
