Pdf Summary
This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for patients with centrally located primary lung tumors or lung metastases. The study involved 63 patients who underwent SBRT between February 2020 and January 2023. The patients were evaluated for toxicity and local control, with a median follow-up period of 12 months.

The study found that SBRT was a safe and effective treatment option for centrally located lung tumors. The 1-year and 2-year local control rates were 93% and 89% respectively, and the mean local recurrence-free survival was 11 months. Only one patient experienced Grade 3 radiation pneumonitis, and 5 patients had Grade 2 radiation pneumonitis, with one patient also experiencing Grade 1 dysphagia. No patients experienced Grade 4-5 toxicity.

The characteristics of the patients were summarized in Table 1, with 33% being female and 67% being male. The mean age was 67. The majority of patients had an ECOG performance score of 0-1. The mean diameter of the treated lesions was 27mm, and the mean volume was 10.5cc. The mean BED10 value was 108 Gy.

However, the study acknowledged limitations such as the short follow-up period and relatively small sample size. Further studies with longer follow-up periods and larger patient cohorts are needed to confirm the results and assess the durability of treatment outcomes.

In conclusion, this study suggests that SBRT may be a safe and effective treatment option for patients with centrally located primary lung tumors or lung metastases. The findings highlight the potential benefits of SBRT in managing early-stage non-small cell lung cancer.
