Pdf Summary
This study focuses on the surgical treatment of lung cancer in patients over the age of 75. Lung cancer is diagnosed more frequently in older patients and is a common cause of cancer-related deaths. Surgery is a main treatment option, but it may not be feasible for many patients due to the associated risks. The study analyzed 73 patients aged above 75 who underwent surgery for lung cancer. The most common surgical procedure performed was lobectomy, and the majority of patients had stage I lung adenocarcinoma. Lymph node metastasis was observed in almost a third of patients. The study found that the most significant predictors of postoperative complications were stage IIIb, lymph node involvement, and central tumor location. The overall survival of patients was influenced by factors such as comorbidity index, stage Ia2, and the need for a thoracotomy. The study concludes that surgical treatment in lung cancer patients over the age of 75 can be conducted safely and effectively. However, it is important to evaluate each patient preoperatively with the involvement of anesthesiologists and cardiologists. Risk factors to consider include advanced stage, lymph node involvement, and central tumor location.
