Pdf Summary
This study compared the effectiveness and safety of indocyanine green (ICG) and methylene blue dyes in preoperative dye marking localization of pulmonary nodules under the guidance of electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy (ENB). The study aimed to provide more data support for dye localization under ENB guidance and help choose a more suitable dye.

The study design included a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent thoracic surgery at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center from September 2015 to December 2021. The characteristics of the patients, nodules, and intraoperative data were collected and analyzed.

The results showed that both ICG and methylene blue were effective in localizing pulmonary nodules with 100% accuracy and no serious complications related to ENB. The overall consistency between freezing results and paraffin results was 91.8%. The average time from the beginning of the operation to sending the sample for freezing detection was shorter in the ICG group compared to the methylene blue group. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that the type of dye was an independent influencing factor on the target time, with ICG significantly reducing the operation time.

The study concluded that pulmonary nodule resection under the guidance of ENB with dye marking localization is a safe and accurate minimally invasive surgery. Both ICG and methylene blue can aid in ENB-guided dye marking for thoracoscopic resection of pulmonary nodules, but ICG may be a better dye as it significantly reduces the operation time.

However, the study has some limitations, including its retrospective design and a lack of data on bronchial progression. Further research is needed to validate these findings and provide more comprehensive comparisons between the two dyes.
