Pdf Summary
This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of performing complex segmentectomy using Uniportal video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for patients with lung cancer. The researchers conducted a retrospective review of patients who underwent uniportal VATS segmentectomy for lung cancer from May 2019 to February 2023. The patients were divided into two groups: those who underwent simple segmentectomy and those who underwent complex segmentectomy. The researchers compared the characteristics of the patients, tumor characteristics, operative outcomes, and postoperative outcomes between the two groups.

The results showed that there were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of patient and tumor characteristics, operative outcomes, and postoperative outcomes, except for the surgical margin distances. The complex segmentectomy group had a shorter postoperative hospital stay but a closer surgical margin distance compared to the simple segmentectomy group. The use of near-infrared fluorescence of indocyanine green was also discussed as a method for demarcating intersegmental planes during surgery.

The study concluded that uniportal VATS complex segmentectomy is a safe and feasible treatment option for patients with clinical stage IA non-small cell lung cancer. However, it is important to note that complex segmentectomy may result in a shorter resection margin, so the tumor location should be carefully considered when performing this procedure.

Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the outcomes of uniportal VATS complex segmentectomy and contributes to the understanding of surgical options for lung cancer patients.
