Pdf Summary
This systematic review and meta-analysis examined the histopathologic outcomes of resected pure ground glass nodules (GGNs) in the lung. The review included 24 studies and found that the proportion of invasive adenocarcinoma among pure GGNs was 27%. It was also found that 50% of invasive adenocarcinomas were non-lepidic dominant. Additionally, the review showed that the proportion of sublobar resections for pure GGNs was 60%.

The study also identified several radiologic factors that may predict invasive adenocarcinoma in pure GGNs, including mean HU attenuation, radiologic size, positive PET findings, and the presence of certain characteristics on imaging.

The findings of this study suggest that the histopathologic outcomes of pure GGNs may be more diverse than previously thought, with a higher proportion of invasive adenocarcinomas and non-lepidic dominant subtypes. These results have implications for the management and treatment of patients with pure GGNs, as the characteristics of an optimal surgical candidate need to be considered. Further research is needed to determine the best approach for managing pure GGNs based on their histopathologic features and radiologic findings.
