Pdf Summary
This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between maximum standardized uptake value (SUVmax) and Gross Tumor Volume (GTV) in patients with locally advanced or medically inoperable Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC). The researchers retrospectively analyzed 58 patients treated with radiotherapy between 2012 and 2016. The patients underwent 18F-FDG PET/CT examination for staging and radiotherapy planning. The patients were divided into four groups based on GTV and SUVmax values. The primary endpoints were disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS).

The results showed a significant correlation between large GTV and high SUVmax values in predicting the survival of patients. However, the correlation was more significant in the groups with small GTV and low SUVmax values, indicating better survival outcomes.

The analysis demonstrated that GTV was related to SUVmax values in predicting the prognosis of patients with locally advanced or medically inoperable NSCLC, except for the group with small GTV and high SUVmax, where the survival outcomes were the worst. SUVmax was found to have a stronger prognostic value in this group. However, in the majority of patients, the individual power of GTV and SUVmax as prognostic factors was not demonstrated, suggesting that their combination is necessary to provide accurate prognostic information.

In conclusion, this study highlights the correlation between SUVmax and GTV in predicting the prognosis of patients with NSCLC. The combination of these factors can provide valuable prognostic information for patients with locally advanced or medically inoperable NSCLC.
