Pdf Summary
Brain metastasis (BM) is a common occurrence in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and is associated with a poor prognosis. The Lung-molGPA prognostic score has been developed to predict the survival of NSCLC patients with BM, but its applicability in the Asian population is limited. In this study, researchers aimed to evaluate the overall survival (OS) grading by the Lung-molGPA score and identify additional prognostic factors for NSCLC patients with BM.

They retrospectively recruited NSCLC patients with BM from Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital between January 2015 and December 2020. The primary endpoint was the overall survival graded by the Lung-molGPA score, and the secondary outcome was to identify additional prognostic factors.

The study found that the Lung-molGPA score accurately predicted the OS in NSCLC patients with BM. Furthermore, adding serum albumin levels to the Lung-molGPA score significantly improved the prediction of OS. Patients were categorized into four groups based on the Lung-molGPA score, and the median OS ranged from 3.65 to 20.34 months, with a statistically significant difference between the groups.

The study also evaluated other prognostic factors for overall survival in NSCLC patients with BM. Factors such as age, co-morbidity (specifically COPD), smoking status, number of brain metastases, subtype of NSCLC, EGFR mutation status, and albumin levels were analyzed. The analysis revealed that albumin levels had a significant impact on OS, with higher levels associated with better survival.

In conclusion, the Lung-molGPA score is an effective tool for predicting the overall survival of NSCLC patients with BM. The addition of serum albumin levels further improves the accuracy of this prediction. These findings provide valuable information for categorizing patients and considering treatment options for NSCLC patients with BM.
