Pdf Summary
A single-center study conducted in Jakarta, Indonesia aimed to investigate the clinical features and outcomes of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The study included 41 newly diagnosed NSCLC patients who were evaluated retrospectively and followed during treatments. The majority of the patients were male, elderly, non-smokers, and had adenocarcinoma pathology. Additionally, most of the patients were diagnosed at an advanced metastatic stage.

The study found that 63.2% of the patients had EGFR mutation, with the majority having point mutation exon 21 and deletion exon 19. None of the patients had ALK rearrangement, and 12.2% had PD-L1 mutation. Twenty-seven subjects (65.9%) showed a minimally stable disease after six months of evaluation using a CT scan, while only three subjects were found to have progressive disease.

In terms of treatment, 41.5% of the patients received platinum-based chemotherapy, while 43.9% received anti-EGFR therapy with erlotinib or gefitinib. The results showed that the majority of subjects had a favorable response to treatment.

Lung cancer is the most common new cancer case in men and the third most common in women in Indonesia. NSCLC accounts for 80-85% of all lung cancer cases. However, there is a lack of data on the clinical features and outcomes of NSCLC patients in Indonesia.

This study provides valuable insight into the characteristics and treatment outcomes of NSCLC patients in a tertiary referral cancer center in Jakarta. The findings suggest that EGFR mutation is common in Indonesian NSCLC patients, and targeted therapies such as anti-EGFR treatment could be effective in managing the disease. Overall, understanding the clinical profile and treatment responses of NSCLC patients can help guide personalized treatment strategies and improve outcomes for individuals with this type of lung cancer.
