Pdf Summary
A retrospective cohort study was conducted to assess the relationship between impaired fasting glucose and the prognosis of advanced non-small cell lung cancer. The study included 352 patients diagnosed with lung cancer between February 2015 and February 2020. The patients were divided into three groups based on their fasting blood glucose levels before treatment. The groups included patients with average blood glucose levels, those with impaired fasting glucose, and those with diabetic levels of fasting blood glucose.

The study found that patients with normal blood glucose levels had a significantly higher overall survival and progression-free survival compared to patients with impaired fasting glucose and diabetic patients. Additionally, patients with more than one metastatic organ had an increased risk of mortality. Chemotherapy and targeted therapy were found to significantly increase survival time, while radiotherapy did not have a significant effect on survival.

In terms of progression-free survival, patients with normal blood glucose levels had a significantly higher progression-free survival compared to patients with impaired fasting glucose and diabetes. The number of organs with metastasis also increased the risk of progression. Targeted therapy was found to significantly increase progression-free survival, while radiotherapy increased the risk of progression.

The study concludes that hyperglycemia, caused by impaired glucose metabolism and diabetes, is associated with worsened prognosis in advanced non-small cell lung cancer. Controlling blood glucose levels in lung cancer patients with impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes is crucial for improving prognosis.
