Pdf Summary
A retrospective analysis was conducted on the treatment patterns and outcomes of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in Thailand. The study reviewed 1,177 patient records from January 2012 to December 2021. The majority of patients were male and had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status (ECOG PS) of 0 to 1. Adenocarcinoma was the most common type of NSCLC, and the clinical stage for most patients was stage IV.

In the cohort of patients with stage I-IIIA, 75% underwent surgical resection, and 43.8% received adjuvant chemotherapy. The median disease-free survival and overall survival (OS) were higher in the resectable group compared to the unresectable group.

Among stage IV patients, the majority received chemotherapy, while a smaller percentage received tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) or immunotherapy. Patients with EGFR or ALK mutations/rearrangements who received TKIs had longer progression-free survival and OS compared to those who received chemotherapy.

The study identified several factors associated with decreased risk of death, including female sex, low body mass index, good ECOG PS, lower stage, and resectable disease.

The analysis revealed a high disease burden for advanced NSCLC in Thailand. The prevalence of EGFR mutation was similar to that found in other Asian populations. Treatment with EGFR TKIs showed benefit across different lines of treatment. However, there is a need for improved treatment options for tumors lacking targetable mutations.

In conclusion, this real-world study provides insights into the treatment patterns and outcomes of NSCLC patients in Thailand. The findings highlight the importance of personalized treatment approaches based on genetic mutations and disease stage.
