Pdf Summary
This retrospective analysis examined real-world treatment patterns and survival outcomes for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients in Thailand. The study included 1,177 patients diagnosed with NSCLC between 2012 and 2021 at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok. The median follow-up duration was 19.4 months.

The most common locations of disease recurrence were loco-regional, bone, and brain. The factors associated with a decreased risk of death were female gender, low body mass index (BMI), good performance status (ECOG PS of 0-1), lower stage, and resectable disease.

The study found a high disease burden for advanced NSCLC patients in Thailand, with a prevalence of EGFR mutation similar to the Asian population. EGFR TKI treatment had a benefit for EGFR-mutated NSCLC patients in all lines of treatment.

In terms of treatment modalities, surgery was performed in 75% of stage I-IIIA patients, while systemic treatment was administered to 79.8% of stage IV patients. Chemotherapy was the most common first-line treatment in stage IV patients.

The median overall survival (OS) for all patients was 12.0 months. In stage I-IIIA patients, the median disease-free survival (DFS) and OS were 37.7 and 50.1 months in the resectable group and 14.9 and 20.6 months in the unresectable group, respectively. In stage IV patients, the median OS in patients who received chemotherapy was 11.0 months.

For EGFR-mutated patients who received TKIs, the median progression-free survival (PFS) and OS were 18.5 and 24.4 months in the first-line and 17.6 and 21.2 months in the second-line treatment, respectively. The overall response rate with EGFR TKIs was not different across treatment lines.

Overall, this study provides insights into the treatment patterns and survival outcomes for advanced NSCLC patients in Thailand, highlighting the importance of personalized treatment approaches based on genetic mutations.
