Pdf Summary
Researchers at West China Hospital, Sichuan University in China have reported a case of successful treatment for a patient with EGFR-mutated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with brain metastasis and a giant lung lesion using aumolertinib plus radiotherapy as first-line treatment. The patient presented with a large primary tumor and severe symptoms of intracranial hypertension. The symptoms were significantly relieved and the intracranial metastatic lesions went into complete remission after treatment with aumolertinib combined with upfront cranial and thoracic radiotherapy. The patient experienced no serious adverse events during the treatment and has remained in complete remission for over 36 months.

The researchers highlight the effectiveness of radiation therapy for limited metastases and the sensitivity of EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) to active EGFR mutations. They suggest that simultaneous administration of EGFR-TKIs can increase radiosensitivity and reduce resistant clones that are insensitive to EGFR-TKIs. Aumolertinib, a third-generation EGFR-TKI, was found to have significant treatment efficacy and a favorable safety profile.

The case presented in the study demonstrates that aumolertinib combined with upfront cranial and thoracic radiotherapy has significant antitumor activity and excellent safety. The researchers conclude that it is possible to administer radiotherapy during aumolertinib treatment. This case suggests a potential treatment strategy for patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC with brain metastasis and large lung lesions. Further studies are needed to validate these findings and explore the optimal treatment protocols for this patient population.
