This case report highlights the sustained survival of a patient with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) treated with a combination of cell therapy and immunotherapy. The patient, a 70-year-old female, initially presented with cough and chest pains. Radiological assessment revealed right patchy consolidation with pleural effusion, and further pathological assessment confirmed adenocarcinoma. The treatment approach included daily oral chemotherapy with Osimertinib (for the L858R EGFR mutation), alendronic acid, calcium, and multivitamins. Additionally, the patient received injections of both whole cell-stimulated dendritic cells and peptide-stimulated dendritic cells, as well as cytokine-induced killer cells. <br /><br />The right lung nodule regressed and the pleural effusion resolved following these interventions, as shown in a PET/CT scan. The patient's disease has stabilized with continued daily oral chemotherapy, peptide-stimulated dendritic cell vaccinations, and cytokine-induced killer cell infusions. The patient has survived for 9 months since the diagnosis of stage IV NSCLC in April 2019, and her quality of life has improved.<br /><br />This case demonstrates that a multimodality treatment approach combining cellular therapy and immunotherapy can lead to sustained survival in patients with NSCLC. Cellular therapy, such as dendritic cell vaccinations and cytokine-induced killer cell infusions, can be effective in treating NSCLC alongside standard chemotherapy. This approach offers hope for patients with NSCLC, which remains a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the Philippines. Further research and clinical trials are needed to validate these findings and explore the potential of combining cell therapy and immunotherapy in the treatment of NSCLC.
