The study found that patients with a percent predicted FVC of less than 80% had a significantly poorer prognosis after surgery compared to those with a FVC of 80% or higher. Other poor prognostic factors identified in the study include a rindlike growth pattern on computed tomography, a Glasgow Prognostic Score of 1, and a pathologic stage II.<br /><br />The researchers concluded that FVC can be a useful tool in assessing tumor invasion and determining indications for surgery in MPM patients. By considering FVC, doctors can better determine which patients would benefit from surgery and have a higher chance of postoperative survival.<br /><br />This study provides valuable insights into predicting postoperative survival in MPM patients.
