Pdf Summary
Lymph node metastasis is an important prognostic factor for thymic malignancies, but the pattern of lymph node metastasis and the effect of lymph node dissection are not well understood. This study aimed to analyze the prognostic implications and identify the risk factors for lymph node metastasis in thymic malignancies. The study used data from the SEER database, with a training set from 1988-2015 and a validation set from 2018-2019. Logistic regression was used to identify risk factors for lymph node metastasis, and overall survival and cancer-specific survival were analyzed. The results showed that stage and histology were specific predictors of lymph node metastasis in thymic malignancies. Thymoma B3 and thymic carcinoma had the highest rates of lymph node metastasis. The study also found that T3-4 stage and M1 stage were significantly associated with lymph node metastasis. A risk score and risk group were developed based on the identified risk factors, which allowed for better prediction of lymph node metastasis. The study suggested that surgical resection with regional lymph node dissection should be recommended for thymic malignancies with a high potential of lymph node metastasis. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the significance and risk factors of lymph node metastasis in thymic malignancies, which can guide clinical practice and improve treatment outcomes.
