Pdf Summary
This presentation discusses the changing trends and patterns of lung cancer incidence among Asian Americans in Los Angeles County, California. The researchers highlight the importance of considering the impact of relocation on health and how disease risks among immigrants change over time. The study utilizes data from the Los Angeles Cancer Surveillance Program (LACSP), which provides information on lung cancer rates among ethnic Asian Americans such as Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, and Korean populations.

Using publicly available data from Cancer Incidence in Five Continents (CI5) and the Global Cancer Observatory (GCO), the researchers compare lung cancer incidence rates between different ethnic groups in Los Angeles County and their country of origin. The preliminary analysis reveals that Chinese-American men have lower lung cancer incidence rates compared to US white men and men in China, and there is a similar declining trend in incidence rates across all groups. Additionally, Chinese-American women and women in China have comparable lung cancer rates, which are about half of those among US white women.

The study aims to complete similar analyses for other ethnic groups, with possible variations based on ethnicity and sex. The findings from this research will provide valuable insights into the development of lung cancer and help improve cancer control efforts. By understanding the changing patterns and trends of lung cancer incidence among immigrant populations, it is possible to identify modifiable risk factors for health promotion and disease prevention. Overall, this research underscores the importance of considering the lifestyle and non-genetic factors in disease development.
