Pdf Summary
This study focuses on the survival rate of lung cancer patients who did not receive any type of treatment at Dr. (H.C) Ir. Soekarno Hospital in Bangka. The aim of the study was to determine the survival of untreated patients with lung cancer. The research is a retrospective descriptive study that used medical record data from lung cancer patients at the hospital from January 2018 to December 2021.

The results show that out of 74 cases, 72 patients were diagnosed with lung cancer, with 12 patients receiving chemotherapy and 60 patients not receiving any anticancer treatment. The majority of patients were males (71%) and the median age at diagnosis was 61 years old. Most patients had non-small cell lung cancer and were in stage IV at the time of diagnosis. The performance status of patients was mostly at PS 3 according to WHO criteria.

The median overall survival in untreated patients was 47 days, while the median overall survival in treated patients with chemotherapy was 163 days. Significant differences were observed in overall survival based on staging, performance status, treatments, type of pathology, and reasons for not receiving treatment. The majority of reasons for not receiving treatment were medical reasons such as poor performance, and non-medical reasons such as financial problems and rejection of standard therapy.

In conclusion, the survival rate for untreated lung cancer patients in this study was 47 days. The study highlights that besides advanced disease staging and performance status at the time of diagnosis, not receiving standard therapy is a negative prognostic factor for lung cancer patients. This information is important for healthcare professionals in understanding the outcomes of untreated patients and the importance of timely and effective treatment for lung cancer.
