Pdf Summary
This study aimed to assess the relationship between frailty and lung cancer survival through a systematic review and meta-analysis. Frailty is a condition characterized by decreased reserves and increased vulnerability to stressors, which can lead to poorer health outcomes in older adults. Lung cancer, being the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, particularly affects older adults with comorbidities, making them more susceptible to frailty.

The researchers conducted a systematic literature search using multiple databases and identified 18 studies comprising a total of 5,606 patients. The prevalence of frailty among lung cancer patients was estimated to be 41.2%. The pooled estimate of the adjusted hazard ratio for overall survival in frail lung cancer patients compared to non-frail patients was 1.66, indicating a significant increase in the risk of death among frail patients.

These findings suggest that frailty has a significant impact on the survival of lung cancer patients. Therefore, identifying and addressing frailty in lung cancer patients should be a priority in clinical practice. Future research should focus on developing interventions to improve the outcomes of frail lung cancer patients.

Overall, this study highlights the need for healthcare providers to recognize the importance of frailty in lung cancer patients and implement strategies to mitigate its effects on survival.
